Today they would undoubtedly diagnose me as having an attention deficit disorderand probably give me pills to slow me down. I rarely even listened to the teachers, daydreaming instead about scoring touchdownspositive imaging before I even understood the concept.
But the real story is this: Why did Andy call in the first place? I was not his equal. I was a kid trying to make the team, and he was a ten-year veteran, five years older than I was. He was a legend in that arena; at a level I had not yet attained. And that dinner in Chicago was for legends. Age, time and experience can make a difference in a person's make-up. One can get caught in the hype, the self-importance, and become myopic. I know, I've been there. But as I have come to learn, that was not where Andy was.
